Abstract โ€•โ€‹

Indonesia possesses a vast cultural heritage that deserves scientific study in order to preserve and preserve it for generations to come. One such heritage is the hikayat (traditional folktale) presented in the form of wawacan (traditional folktale). The purpose of this study is to explore: language, culture, and literary codes; its position in classical literature; characteristics of hikayat (traditional folktales); and its transformation from other classical literature. The research method used is descriptive, using text analysis and interview techniques. The stages of the study include: manuscript identification; compiling a story synopsis; and data analysis using a qualitative approach. From the results of the data analysis, we know the literary elements, cultural codes, the position of the manuscript in classical literature, the characteristics of the fable and the transformation model of other classical literature.
